I’m a Slacker

So, last week I didn’t update at all and say anything I was thankful for. It was a rough week, and probably when I should have been focusing on my blessings the most. But we slip up occasionally, right? Let’s just wrap up last week with one big I’m thankful that it’s over, and hopeful that this week will be much calmer.

On a different note, my 30th birthday is in about 3 weeks and I have very mixed feelings about it. But as I was wasting time on Pinterest today, I came across this site and am feeling a little inspired. This lady spent her birthday doing random acts of kindness for people she encountered throughout her day- one for each year of her life. Her random acts were things like handing out coffee to some workers outside on a cold day, picking up someones tab at a restaurant, etc. I think it would be cool if I could do something similar on my birthday. The only setbacks are that I will a) spend most of the day at work, and b) have extremely limited funds, so I can’t afford to buy restaurant meals and pay for groceries for the person behind me in line, etc.
For the two people that read this, do you have any suggestions of random acts of kindness I can do with those restrictions? I think it’d be fun, and a good distraction to keep my mind off the fact that I will officially be old.

35 & 36

Yesterday I’m thankful for the few hours of overtime (that wasn’t really overtime) that I got to work. I’m poor, and extra money is always nice. Today I’m thankful for friends that can grill a mean cheeseburger.

Day 33 & 34

Yesterday I was very thankful for my boss, who towards the end of a dinner with a bunch of people form corporate excused herself to use the ladies room. I had been holding it in for the last 45 minutes and was about to explode. I a) didn’t want to be rude and b) was in the corner of the table to where I couldn’t get out without making someone else get up as well. I was pretty sure I was going to wet my pants- I even contemplated it. I sat there, thinking “maybe if I just let a little out, no one will notice and my bladder will feel better…” (mind you, I was on my 3rd glass of wine at that point). Don’t worry, I didn’t. But I could not have been happier when someone else finally got up from the table, making it perfectly acceptable for me to do the same.

Today, I’m struggling a little bit to find something to be thankful for. But that’s why I do this- so that even on those days where I’m really just in a funk, I have to stop and appreciate something in my life. I would like to say I’m thankful that I don’t have to work today (because who doesn’t love random weekdays off) but I have so much to do that I would actually like to be working. I’m thankful that I got to Skype with my little sister and her adorable kiddos, but it kind of just made me miss them more. So really all I’m left with is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. That’s what I’m thankful for today. Well, that and Dr. Pepper.

Day 32

Today I am thankful for flats. I didn’t wear flats today, which is what makes me appreciate them. Normally I bring my flats with me to work, so if my heels start bothering me I can switch shoes. I forgot them today, and my feet are killing me. I love flats.

Day 31

Skype. Definitely thankful for Skype. And since I know I’ve already said that recently, I’m also thankful that alcohol sometimes makes people say things they might not normally say 🙂

Day 28 & 29

Day 28: Thankful for my bed.

Day 29: Thankful that even when my judgement is impaired a little, I still seem to be capable of biting my tongue, at least most of the time.

Day 27

I am so, so, so thankful for Entergy and the fact that power was restored to my apartment before I came home for the first time since Monday. Words cannot express how good it feels to be back home, and not stuck at work any longer.

Days 25 and 26

It appears that Isaac caused me to forget to post yesterday…

Yesterday was a rough day. I’m exhausted and have a bad case of cabin fever. I haven’t left my hotel/place of employment since Monday, and I think I’ve reach the edge of my sanity. But yesterday (and still today, really), I’m incredibly thankful for Skype and the fact that it can connect me with someone that’s over 5,000 miles away. It had been a long, tiring day and being able to see the person on the other end and talk to them made a world of difference.

Today, I’m thankful that Hurricane Isaac has finally decided to go away. While I am still stuck at my hotel because my apartment doesn’t have power, it has at least stopped raining for the most part and the wind has died down considerably. Hopefully when I get home from work tomorrow all is well.
